Sneak Preview of the Day : “Un Amorio”

  1. Un Amorio

“/Eviolonogue”

“/Eviolonogue” is a six-track extended play album conceptualized and executively produced by Singapore’s first Yamaha Electric Strings Artist, Han Oh.

Inspired by his love for creative music platforms, Han has created a plethora of new sounds and colors, combining and enhancing the tonal palette of both the violin and viola.  Drawing on Han’s expertise and his creativity on the electric strings platform, this album explores and demonstrates the versatility of styles and sounds on the electric violin, redefining its place in the modern creative musical arts as well as commercial entertainment arts.

Aptly titled “/Eviolonogue”, this album expresses the empowerment and the liberation of the electric strings genre, allowing art and music to be fully explored free of the limits and expectations of the “classical string tradition” stigma. This newly invented platform is arguably the first of its kind internationally.

The idea of “/Eviolonogue”, a portmanteau inspired by the words E-violin and Monologue, was founded on Han’s conviction to collaborate with his fellow Singaporean colleagues, who are also top musicians in their own right, to compose and produce the tracks for an all-Singaporean album. Taking pride in the creativity and abilities of his dear friends whom he has worked closely with since his return from the U.S, “/Eviolonogue” is produced by three of the most prominent musician-producers in the Singaporean music industry.

All tracks for this album are recorded either on Yamaha Electric Violin YEV105 or Yamaha Silent Violin SV255.

  1. Northern Lights

Northern Lights is a reflective riding journey dressed in chill out beats and languid movements. Just like catching the mysterious northern lights, the results are not guaranteed but you’ll remember the process while chasing it and perhaps you will try again. I hope you can hear the determination and sometimes “what gives” part reflected in the music :)

  1. TICKS

Depicts the heightened senses of anxiety and frustration while waiting in vain by the phone for a loved one’s response, checking every now and then for the double ticks beside the whatsapp message to turn blue. Waiting. Still waiting. They never did. Frustration turns to despair, and finally, apathy.

  1. Un Amorío

When Han approached me to contribute to his album, I had just recently returned from my postgraduate studies in Valencia, Spain, a city I ended up falling in love with, with its intensely musical culture and wonderful people. “Un Amorío” was partly inspired by my experience in that one year in Spain. It is based on the rhythm of the rumba flamenca, but at a faster, more virtuosic tempo. The piece was also written in mind to showcase the extended viola range of the 5-string Yamaha electric violin, as well as Han’s excellent virtuoso technique, both as a violist and violinist. One challenge was to capture a sound that could pass off the e-violin as an acoustic instrument, with a full-bodied resonant tone.

(6. Secuelas)

Secuelas” means “aftermath“, it was written partly as a reflection of a past romance, and ends with the feel of a nana, a lullaby. It incorporates themes from “Un Amorío“.

  1. Light and Love

I love listening to music that makes me feel good and I hope this tune makes you feel exactly that way. It was an instrumental originally with just some light singing -“Together Light and Love”. Later on, I roped in Hypeman Mr. Boo to collaborate on a rap segment and it brought chemistry, energy and more inspiration to the table!

  1. ZERO-G ROLL

Zero-G (Gravity) Roll is a roller coaster track element where the track twists 360 degrees counter or clockwise as it rises and falls in elevation, and the precise point of inversion usually happens at the apex of the hill. As the name suggests, riders experience a brief sensation of weightlessness during the inversion caused by the changing elevation. Picture this in slow motion, and then in all its electrifying full-speed glory, as the music goes through a roller coaster ride of pure adrenaline rush.

 Artiste’s notes:

“I performed and recorded this track with gratitude and love to those who have worked tirelessly alongside me in excess of eighteen months to produce this creative brainchild and, of course, also not forgetting those who have helped or supported me in any way whatsoever to make this mammoth of a dream come true… Hence, I have decided to dedicate this short track as a tribute to all who have been positively involved in the production of this album by not including it as an official track but as a personal thank you to each and every one of you! Cheers, and God Bless!”
